how install balcony rails black iron

I’m looking to change my current alumunium grilles to wrought iron ones. It’s for a balcony, common room and yard. Any good and reliable supplier/contractor to recommend? I searched online and came across PangGiap, dunno whether is this good or not… any advice? Many thks!

My veranda doesn’t have any railings so its basically a veranda followed by a drop then you hit earth current roofing of the veranda is supported by circular metal poles on the edges. I am looking at building a railing myself coz its kinda dangerous . I’ve sused out how to build the railings but i’m not sure how to attach to the metal poles. Any advice appreciated.

balconies/railings really should be built by a registered builder, and certified… but anyway.. I’d recommend welding a cleat plate to the steel post at the top and bottom of the railing. Assuming the span of the railing isn’t more than 3m, I’d suggest a 8mm cleat plate, 2 x M10 bolts, fixed top and bottom. Have fun welding to the circular post

One of the few things we do not like in a home we will likely buy is it has a small balcony with a small patio right beneath it. House is over 4500 sq ft. Is it possible / legal to extend both? Location is the Plano/Dallas area in Texas. We want to add about 100-200 sq ft. Balcony and patio are now about 100 sq ft.

Legalities aside, I am thinking people must have done this -any suggestions / ideas will be appreciated.

How would you transition this stair railing to the newell? As shown with a level turn seems odd with the angle. I don’t think I have room for any other fittings? O r do I just have to bracket it? I’d prefer tying the rail into the newell without a bracket if I could.

I went to install these balcony railings today and ran into a major problem. They are to be secured to the ceramic tile floor with four lags in each post plate as well as lagged into the collumns just below the top rail.

I advised the owner that there were no guaruntees on the tile not cracking while drilling the holes. They were okay with this since the tiles will be replaced soon.

The tiles were all loose where I needed to drill and therefor did crack. But the real problem is under the tiles. I drilled 5″ and never hit a wood sub-floor. The base material is a concrete product of some sort but when drilled into just crumbles making it impossible to secure and anchor to. I considered filling the holes with epoxy and setting the anchors but this will not work because of the base material crumbling.

As of now they are secured at the top with lags into the collumns only. No floor anchors. The owners and I will discuss our options tomorrow.

What a mess. I’m just sick over this. Any ideas?

I use stainless steel expanding anchor bolts to install 200 -300 lb stone tiles vertically on the facades of
buildings in NYC. We usually go into poured cement walls but sometimes there are cinder blocks in some areas.
We’ll add some epoxy in those cases.
The anchor bolts will come out when they replace the tiles but will have to be replaced with new ones.
They come in non stainless also.We use 1/2 ” or 5/8″ dia. either 5″ or 6″ long.{not sure how long they go to}.

Hey I have a wooden balcony and I’m looking for a cheap solution to fix it up. it has wooden rails but the gaps are too far apart for my dog i don’t want him to jump through and I’m afraid the wood will give splinters. I’m not sure if i should sand it and i have no idea how to apply finish or what kind

If there really isn’t anything structurally wrong with the railing, you might consider putting up a foot or so high of lattice (wood or plastic) along the bottom, or whatever height is necessary to prevent your dog from slipping through the slats. I have a wood balcony/deck off the front of my house that I replaced the railing on. It was originally untreated wood with wrought iron slats (they were not protected and were rusting pretty badly). I kept the original 4×4′s, and just replaced the slats and railing. I then just panted the railing and fascia board white with a few coats of an exterior semigloss latex, especially on the top rail to help prevent excessive weathering.

I replaced the decking itself with a tan Trex decking. If your decking is worn and you’re going to replace it anyway, I suggest using the Trex or similar composite product. It’s a lot more expensive. But, it has a lifetime warranty and never needs any kind of treatment. Plus it comes in either a smooth surface or stamped with a wood grain pattern.

Wood must be either painted or sealed. And, it eventually must be refinished. Before restoring the railing, I had sanded and finished the top rail with spar urethane varnish (the kind they use on boats). And, I had to refinish it every couple of years, due to weathering and peeling.

Balustrades on balcony?
I have balcony on garage, garage roof was done with wood studs and 3/4 inch plywood, I did mud job on it and plaaning to lay tiles. I want to put Blustrades. I ahve brick walls.
I want to know can I place precast balustrade ? is it too heavy ? if not what I can use ? please advise.

I have two balconies that are over my 3 car garage. You can install balustrades and they won’t be too heavy on a brick wall if you mount them properly. You can also use the “fake” composite balustrades as well.

We mounted our using Locktite for a fast grab, but also used masonry mollies and screws (our balustrades had wires on the back for hanging) with a masonry bit to drill into the brick.

I would use a pressure washer. It would be fast, efficient and keep you from having to scrub pigeon dung. All you would need is little electric one, about 1600 or 1700 PSI. I’m sure you could rent one but they are under $100, so if you have to clean it in the future it may be worth buying.

Tip: You can buy special detergent for them, but dawn dish detergent works just as well.
