railing stair

I recently bought a house that had an additional room built onto it, and the roof of the room is a balcony which opens from the master bedroom. The roof is wood, with asphalt shingles. The railing was missing, so I am in the process of installing a new one. I chose a wrought Iron railing from Menards which consist of 4 foot my 32 inch panels, and 1.25″ posts. Metal flanges mount the posts into the floor. I installed the fence, which is 18 feet by 6 feet wide. I used 1.5″ long lag bolts to mount down the flanges. Now, The two sides which are 6 feet feel quite solid, but the side that is 18 feet does not feel quite so solid. When you push it outward in moves too much and feels wobbly, but if I pull on it from left to right, it feels quite solid. I tried adding lock washers to the bolts and using a 2″ long lag bolt, but there seemed to be little improvement. If there anything I can do to make this side of the fence less wobbly? Does it need some kind of a brace? I have to have the city inspect this before they let me move in, and I am afraid they may find the fence is not stable enough to pass inspection.

I am thinking of replacing the railings on my balcony. The existing ones are 1m high, and are an ideal height for being able to see over them from the armchair in the lounge. What I would like to know is, if I replace them, would the new railings need to be 1.1m high to conform to current regs? or would it be ok to replace them like for like. I feel that adding 100mm to these railings would bring them directly into the line of sight, and spoil the view. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks…..

What sort of finishings should I use on my balcony railings, which are visible from a long-distance away.

If normal gloss paint, this would be quite common, and the selection of colors would be key. Or is there something called metallic-color paint, which, after applying onto the iron railings, would make them look like stainless steel ?

What about stones, etc ? Anything I can ‘stick’ on top of the railings instead of the usual painting work ?

we are looking for some railing parts for an old brownstone.
we got some parts from olde good things but they don’t have the parts for the curves. does anybody know someone that can help us with that?
we need a part that make left turn.
our contractor cannot help us with that and we are looking for someone that can help us find the parts or that will make them.

The iron railing has been neglected for a very, very long time and have rusted out (see pictures).
As you can see, the rust has eaten a large chunk of the railing. Can this be repair by a metal guy by cutting out the rust and welding a new section of iron to it?

How should I paint an old indoor wrought iron railing?
I need help, paint can make this railing look brand new. The railing is old and we have redone almost every aspect of this house but the railing has stayed so what can i do to make it look nice? The railing starts downstairs and extends upstairs along the hallway. I painted the upstairs portion in the hallway already and I was planning to finish. I painted it with oil based paint, was that a mistake?? It’s nice but I was wondering if there is something better I could do, I want to do some type of painting technique, my friend has one in her home that is painted the iron color (dark grey) but it has like silver weathered accent on it. I don’t know if you can picture what i’m describing but please any suggestions, photos, etc would help. Can I prime over the part I painted with the oil based paint if I decide to do something different??

How can I fix a wrought iron railing support without welding it?
Outdoor wrought iron stair railing supports have broken at the welds, is there some epoxy or the like which I can use to repair??

My house consists of a great room – living room, dining room and kitchen. I would like to install a wrought iron railing between the living room and dining room. This would consist of 13 feet of railing.

Does your know if and how this could be accomplished. I would greatly appreciate any solutions you may offer.

Lay wet spaghetti out on wax paper and let it dry into the shape you need.
Then you can paint it and glue it on.

(if you use just a little bit of cooking spray or oil on the wax paper the spaghetti is even easier to get off when it has dried)
If you need those belly shaped curves in the railings you can put a small roll of waxed paper or a bit of plastecene as a mold to drape the pasta over.

soldering wire,you can bend it melt it to any shape or form noce its painted or varnished its solid for the the job you need it for.

I don’t know what design you want to re-create, but metal radiator covers have a type of waffle weave pattern, and are sold individually.

Need help with a spiral staircase?
so we’re moving into a house with a wrought iron spiral staircase and i have an almost-2-year old daughter. the problem is that the railing bars are REALLY far apart. i could slip through them so i know she could. i’m curious if anyone can help me think of ANYTHING i can do, make, use, or buy to cover the holes or make them smaller. any opinions are greatly appreciated!

Maybe you could weave some kind of fabric or mesh material through the bars. You could probably find something that looks good with the staircase, and weaving it through the bars and somehow attaching it to each and at the ends seems like it would be pretty strong.

That’s about all I can think of that would work on something curved such as a spiral staircase. Wood or plastic sheeting might not easily conform to the sides, depending on just how tight the spiral is.

YOU COULD HAVE A IRON WORKER COME IN ADD MORE BARS OR RUNNER FROM TOP BOTTON. BUT THIS NOT LOOK GOOD.
THE EASY FIX IS TO GET NESTING MADE UP THE SAME COLOR AS THE RAILS. WHEN IS OLDER. IT CAN BE TAKEN DOWN. BUT IT WILL NEED TO TIE DOWN AT THE BOTTON. THIS CAN BE DONE. I’M GUESTING IT IS FREE STANDING. IF IT HAS TWO RAIL SIDE. THE NEATING CAN GO TO BOTH SIDE IN ONE PICE. TIED EACH RAIL AT BOTH THE TOP AND BOTTON.
